Global Maritime Alliance® - Offshore Wave & TidalGlobal Maritime Alliance® - Offshore Wave & Tidal

Northern Ireland has now moved forward with the issuing of licenses for up to 200mw of offshore tidal development following a 10 month competitive tendering process.

Tidal Ventures incorporating Openhydro and Bord Gais have secured rights to install up to 100mw of tidal energy capacity near Torr Head and DP Marine Energy have secure approval to install up to 100mw of tidal energy capacity near to Fair Head in collaboration with DEME Blue Energy from Belgium.

The Global Maritime Alliance is strategically placed to assist with the delivery of these monumentus projects through harnessing the natural resource and aligning the world-class supply chain that exists under The Global Maritime Alliance umbrella.

For the past 4 years, we have been working on the development of supply chains within the wind operation and maintenance sector combined with the development of ocean energy devices and projects.

It is through the alignment of our sister organization (The Global Wind Alliance) with the offerings of The Global Maritime Alliance, we can offer a one-stop-shop approach to the ocean energy sector.

The tidal resource zones adjacent to Torr Head and Fair Head offer a vast opportunity to capture energy from the fast flowing waters that are channeled between Northern Ireland and Scotland as they enter the Irish Sea from the Atlantic.

On release of the news, Minister Arlene Foster commented: "Today's announcement by The Crown Estate represents a major milestone for Northern Ireland. I am greatly encouraged by the progress made to date to develop our offshore renewable resource and that these key companies want to invest in our waters.

"The development of offshore renewables is an excellent opportunity for Northern Ireland in so many ways - energy security and diversity; climate change mitigation; a contribution to the Executive's 2020 targets and the business supply chain opportunities for local companies over the next few years as these projects come on stream."
